When I set out in May on a campaign to raise funds to cover our travel expenses for the 2011 NAHB and Hanley Wood-sponsored Remodeling Show, I really had no idea what I was getting into.  I mean — I had seen friend and SoMe super star Paul_Anater threaten to do a Pledge-a-Thon for some time now.  And in the end, this is funny — that’s exactly what it was.

My hope was to engage some (new) sponsors and attend — and why attend?  Well, and I have done very little time with the trade shows in our industry — this Show, with the exception maybe of the International Builder’s Show, is the most comprehensive of its sort.  For remodelers, this is the place to be.  And I say this most definitely, well — ’cause I’ll be there. *wink*

Yep, fortunately for the good people, sponsors:  Duquella Tile, Crestview Doors and DAP Products (also at the show), plus a handful of generous donations — we have raised at least enough for one of us to attend.  As it stands today, we are at about $1800.  Our goal $2500 and the initial deadline of September 15th.  That date, this week, is coincidentally the final day of early registration for the Show >> https://registration3.experient-inc.com/ShowREM111/Default.aspx.  (Ummm 50% savings and you know you want to do it now.)

My hope too was that both Barry and I could attend.  I find, and watching the team at @Adroyt work our visit to American Standard’s New Product Design Center sealed this way of thinking for me — two people can just provide the coverage that one person simply can not.  And we will continue to accept sponsorships and/or donations up till the beginning of the Show, October 12th.  I mean — I know the damage that Barry and I can do as a team >> Building Moxie Visits NAHBRC.

2011 Remodeling Show and Deck Expo

Until now — I have given limited coverage to what actually will be happening at the Show.  Well, it’s billed as the “Construction Education and Remodeling Event.”  This includes:

  • 300+ Manufacturers Exhibiting
  • Product Demonstrations >> Andersen Windows, ThermaTru | Fypon & Schluter Systems
  • A Building Performance Zone
  • Outdoor Living Pavilion
  • Kitchen and Bath Live Educational Demos
  • Containment Central – Lead RRP from A-to-Z
  • RRI Marketing Data Session ($500 value)
  • Wood Pavilion

Oh and then there is the Deck Expo which I really haven’t mention to this point.  This event is dedicated to deck, dock, porch and railing industry.  And yep, like a Show with(in) a Show.  Wow!  And again early registration ends this week.  Our ultimate goal is to bring back just one phenomenal story.

I’ll mention — we have plans this week to visit the fine folks at DAP Products, and this our 350th official post, we are taking a week or two off.  Thanks for reading and thanks for all of your support.  Until we return, be well. ~jb
